In this realm, this character is commonly referred to as Rumpelstiltskin or the Dark One. He is pure evil, however this was not always the case. Rumpel was was a cowardly man with a wife and son. His wife Milah, was not happy with her life with him, and leaves Rumpel for a pirate. Rumpelstiltskin learns of a magical sword that is used to control the Dark One, a very powerful entity with unmatched magical powers who is the most feared being in all of the land, and wants to order the Dark One to be used as a force of good. Once summoned, the Dark One tells Rumpelstiltskin that he is unfair to his son. Hearing this, Rumpel kills the Dark One and instantly becomes the new Dark One, gaining all its power. The power consumes him, and he eventually loses his son because of it. Becoming the Dark One, he was feared by all and tricked many. It was him who helped create the evil that resides inside the Evil Queen.
Storybrooke
Mr. Gold is the alter ego of Rumpelstiltskin in this land. He is the only one, besides Regina, who is aware of the curse placed upon the town. In Storybrooke, Rumpel is still making deals and tricking people into doing things that they are not willing to do.

Satan was not always evil; he was an angel who fell from Heaven.
"Never make a deal with the Devil" is a common saying. The Devil is known as a trickster and deceives people. Refer to

Part of making deals with Rumpelstiltskin involves the use of contracts. Rumpel has contracts with different people. See video 2.
Satan is also about signing contracts. By signing a contract with the Devil you are selling him your soul. The conjurer must sign their name with their blood in Satan's red book.
People are warned that when they go to see Rumpelstiltskin they are not to give him their names. When Snow White and Prince Charming go to see Rumpelstiltskin about the fate of their unborn child, the guard warns them, "When we reach the cell, stay out of the light, and whatever you do, do not let him know your name. If he knows your name, he will have power over you."
When approaching Satan you are not supposed to tell him your name. Giving Satan your name gives him power over you, symbolic to giving him your soul.
Rumpelstiltskin is pure evil. Villains of the Enchanted Forest say he "works on a plane of evil greater than they could ever know".
Satan is the most evil and darkest being in the Bible.
