Figure 1: The Magic Mirror
Video: The Evil Queen Confides in the Magic Mirror
Like the Evil Queen, the magic mirror represents sin. However, the difference is that the mirror is the root to the sins represented by the Evil Queen. The mirror encourages the Evil Queen to carry out the sinful actions and places some of them in her head. It was he who suggested that she find a huntsman to kill Snow White. The sins of vanity and jealousy stem from the magic mirror.
The person in the mirror, Sidney Glass, was not always trapped inside, he was a genie. Prior to becoming trapped inside the mirror, Sidney had committed sins, including the sin of murder. Due to the fact the Sidney was a genie he was able to grant people wishes. This however is frowned upon in religion as God has the power to make all dreams come true.
Sidney Glass had fallen in love with the Evil Queen, and was willing to do anything for her. It was his adoration of the Queen that caused hime to commit murder. He saw that the Queen was saddend by her husband, King Leopold, so he murdered the King with a poisonous viper thinking that his feelings for the Queen were reciprocated. After killing Kind Leopold he realized that the Queen was only using him to kill her husband. Heartbroken, he wished that he could be with her forever and always look upon her face. Ironically, the Evil Queen then trapped him in the mirror.
The idea of magic is not well liked among Christians. Therefore, the symbol of the mirror is sinful. The magic mirror is supernatural. It has the ability to see alll and know all within the realms.
