Figure 3: The Evil Queen cursing the Enchanted Forest

The main theme for the first season of Once Upon a Time is the Dark Curse. The Evil Queen wants to create her own happiness and the only way she can achieve this if she creates a world of her own where no one will remember who they are, and more importantly who she is. To do this she casts a Dark Curse on the inhabitants of the Enchanted Forest.

Figure 1: The Dark Curse

The idea of a curse is a concept that many Christians are aware of. The curse that God placed upon Adam, Eve and the serpent after the serpent tempted Adam and Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge.     Once consuming the fruit, Adam and Eve did not gain salvation, rather shame. They were confronted with the truth of how unlike God they actually were. Both humans were now aware of there own nakedness, which is a biblical metephor for humiliation.       For disobeying God they were punished. They were to be faced with the hardships of life and their days were to be numbered.

To the serpent God said:

“Cursed are you above all livestock
    and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
    and you will eat dust
    all the days of your life.

And I will put enmity
    between you and the woman,
    and between your offspring[i] and hers;
he will crush[j] your head,
    and you will strike his heel.” - Genesis 3:14-15

To Eve He said:

“I will make your pains in childbearing very severe;
    with painful labor you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
    and he will rule over you.” - Genesis 3:16

And to Adam God said:

“Cursed is the ground because of you;
    through painful toil you will eat food from it
    all the days of your life.

It will produce thorns and thistles for you,

 and you will eat the plants of the field.

By the sweat of your brow
    you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
    since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
  and to dust you will return.” - Genesis 3:17-20
