Video: Love is Strength

The concept that love is a very powerful thing is especially prevelant in Once Upon a Time. The opening scene of the first episode focuses on  Snow White who is cursed by the Evil Queen. Her true love, Prince Charming, shows up and, with true love's first kiss, breaks the curse.

If true love in itself is a powerful force, then the product of such love would even be more powerful than that which created it. Snow and Charming's daughter, Emma, is prophesized to be the Saviour, and the power she possesses is a direct result of the love her parents shared for each other.

Romantic love is not the only powerful weapon in Once Upon a Time. The love between a parent and a child and its unbreakable bond is also explored. The Dark Curse placed upon Storybrooke by the Evil Queen is broken when Emma expresses her love for her biological son, Henry, who has died after eating a poisoned apple turnover. Her kiss and expression of love revives Henry and breaks the curse.

The second curse is also broken by maternal love. Once again, Henry finds himself in peril, and only the kiss from his adoptive mother, Regina, restores his memory and breaks the curse.

"Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." - 1 John 4:8
